During the first years of construction (2016 - 2022), the site of the
new BNP Paribas Fortis building had been fenced off with wooden panels.
A mishmash of about 40 street-artists had then been assigned
to cheer up the enclosure with an eclectic series of portraits. It
looked like this:
Working directly across the street from the site, at Etablissement
d'en face,
these faces became our view for a while. When the
building
was finished the panels with the portraits were gone before the bank's
people had the chance of seeing them.
When the BNP Paribas
Fortis launched an open call, a contest, to decorate the 400 m² wall of
their Cour Anglaise, this was a chance to bring back to life
the some of the colourful characters that we had gotten so
well
acquainted with.
Except
this time their appearences would be interpreted by 8 students
from the painting section of Brussels' art school La Cambre -
floating over a wide horizon in their next life.
Also,
they would now live not outside but inside the
building -
from the public domain to the private - directly across three floors of
offices where the bank's employees can enjoy them from their
desks at a close proximity.
The BNP Paribas Fortis loved the proposal!
